Peter Laviolette observed the defensive pairings that had previously served the Rangers well
but the new head coach is now prepared to observe something else.
Following their respective D pairings in the preseason home opener on Tuesday
Adam Fox and K'Andre Miller skated together in the Rangers' 3-2 exhibition loss to the Devils on Thursday night at Madison Square Garden.
Before the game, Laviolette stated, "I know they're two pretty excellent players.
"When you actually coach a player while sitting behind the bench, you perceive it somewhat differently. Both of the players' talent is obvious. What they can each contribute individually and together
"That'll be a good pairing just to watch and see them play, and then make evaluations after that."
One of the few constants for the Rangers over the course of the last two coaches has been their top four players.
